Is it possible to run both versions of server at the same time? I want to have my office continue working in the older version as I test and develop the rewrite of a version 7 solution?

Only if they are on different computers. Server 5.5 and 7 cannot run on the same box, they use the same port.

No idea, I'm not a network weenie. Feel free to try it and report your findings!

Either way, running FMS6 and FMS7 simultaneously on the same box would be a long, long way from optimal. (Which is a polite way of saying it'd be asking for trouble.)
