JanB Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 I have a client willing to upgrade their current FM 5 server to FM 7. They have a 25 client license (FM 5.5) and all clients are running OS X. They are willing to upgrade the server, but are asking why they need to buy 25 more client licenses when they could run a compiled FMP7 app on their server. My question is - What the pros and cons of this approach?
andygaunt Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 You cannot access a run time (compiled) solution on Server without having the clients installed. Run times are stand alone in nature. They let you use them in a network solution but you do need to have the correct clients installed. Maybe they could get Server 7 Advanced and you can build a full web access for the clients. Then they do not need the client
JanB Posted June 27, 2004 Author Posted June 27, 2004 Much appreciate response Andy Does Server 7 Advanced, with full web access, allow full script functionality?
andygaunt Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 Hi - Not full script compatability, but a lot more than previous versions. If you go into scriptmaker in 7 and write a new script, look to the lower left corner for the indicate web compatability checkbox . Turn that on to see all available script steps.
JanB Posted June 28, 2004 Author Posted June 28, 2004 I have checked that box after writing scripts and see a lot of grayed out steps. I do appreciate the new compatability. Perhaps I should experiment more. Again, thank you.
cmcd Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 i haven't yet purchased sever advanced. does anyone know if the import file and export field content script steps are suppported? also does the newer version allow more than 3 script steps per script as the Pro version does not. Thanks.
