Suddenly I am unable to login to FileMaker Server Admin from the local machine. After entering the password 3 times it says "Login Failed". It was working yesterday, the only thing I did last night was look through the various server admin settings (rather quickly, maybe something was altered?). I certainly didn't enter a new password. What could be causing this and is there a way to reset the admin password without reinstalling?

I have encountered exactly the same problem.

First time was yesterday and I reinstalled FMS 7 so that I could access Admin. Now it has happened again and I don't want to keep having to do this.

Would be very interested to hear if you found a solution or reason for it happening.

I also didn't change any settings in FMS Admin console last time I was in, I don't think.

I did this exact samething today and now am locked out. I went through the administration settings quickly. When I got to the password setting, it had ***************** listed. I assumed that it was my password and kept moving on. After trying to log back in, my password no longer works. What I suspect happened is that the user must be required to put a password in instead of the **********. When I didn't do that, the password got changed to something unknown.

The only thing I can assume is that this is a major BUG in their software. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling server 7.0, does anyone know if it is possible to reset the password locally without having to uninstall and reinstall the server? confused.gifconfused.gif

I found this advice on another website and it worked like a charm:

Stop the server services

Delete the key below

Restart services

In the registry (and only do this if you are very familiar with the registry - making mistakes could reduce your machine to a doorstop) delete this key:

HKLMsoftwareFileMakerFileMaker ServerPreferencesAdminAuth cool.gif
