zamzame Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Hello, I'm making a database using portals. My Problem is 'I can't see anything in a portal' sometimes! But, this is not a problem of connecting or finding DB data. When I create a constant letter field (which you can make by clicking the button which face has 'A') and move into the area of portal(the portal container) Then , I can't see this 'Constant field' in the Browse mode Of course when I move the 'constant field' out of the portal container I can see it clearly. But when I try to put this field into another portal in the same layout , I can see it in Browse mode. I tried rearranging many times by moving back and forth, but obviously this is not a problem. I know This is just a small problem, but now very irritating me. Please help me.. I think this is just because of the some different options. But I can't find what 'the options'is. I'll really appreciate it if you give me a hint! Thank you~ .
DanBrill Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 What you are calling a "constant field" isn't a field at all, but is just a text label. If your portal were actually showing any data, you'd see that text label in every row of the portal. It's showing in one portal and not the other because one portal has related records while the other one is empty. So check the relationships for the portals. Once you have the portals/relationships set up the right way you'll see what you want. By the way, you've stumbled onto what is known as the portal invisibility technique. Objects on a layout in a portal aren't there if the portal has no related records. This can be a good trick to know for layout design -- as long as you are aware of it. Good luck, Dan
zamzame Posted July 15, 2004 Author Posted July 15, 2004 Wow Thank you I haven't inputted any data yet. I wanted to make sure that all portals are working well before inputting data. I just made some records and now it works beautifully.
