cross-platform problem: containers in portals

I have lists with portal rows that display square containers that get filled with different colours according to calculation results. These have to be printed or preferably made into PDF files. I can do both on a Macintosh: both in system 9.2 and Jaguar, using both FileMaker 5 and 6 - with the data stored locally or on a Windows server. No problem at all.

However on a PC with FileMaker 5 or 5.5 these coloured boxes do not appear. All the print in the portal rows comes out fine, and the boxes do show up in the preview. However neither the printer nor PDF (Acrobat 6.0 pro) displays them. This has been tried with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, with data stored locally and on server. Nothing doing.

The same coloured boxes appear in the footer of the page - ie not in a portal row - and those print fine and show up in the PDF.

Is anyone familiar with this problem? Is there a solution?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

Is "store compatible graphics" turned on it FMP's preferences? If not, turn it on the paste the images back into the container fields.

Vaughan, thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately it isn't that.

Yes, it is turned on. We also tried pasting the colours in again in the PC itself rather than the Mac. Didn't help

These aren't really graphics, just global container fields in a different file, into which the colours were copied.

Those same global containers appear in the footer of the page, drawn directly from the other file via a general relationship.

But it is only in the portal rows that they vanish when printed from a PC.
