zarli Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 I have several small data bases, that will be used by about 20 users total (with maybe 3-5 on at any one time). What would be the recomended way to set this up? Getting FM Pro for all of the users seems rather expensive, since most of them wont need any design functions. I am contemplating using Pro's IWP feature to set up a makeshift web server for the users to start with. This should atleat get them up and running. If our needs grow, i was thinking about using FM Server on some more serious server hardware as the main web server. Any comments or suggestions?
Ender Posted August 7, 2004 Posted August 7, 2004 For FMP client, each computer that you want it on would need its own license. If you have 10 or more, you can look into volume licensing options for a slight price break. If your solution is not too complex, then IWP is a good option. The web sessions are free, utilizing a web browser. However, the restriction on the number of web sessions allowed may cause you problems. I think you can only host to 5 different IP addresses in a given 12 hour period (or is it 10 users still?)
zarli Posted August 12, 2004 Author Posted August 12, 2004 Thanks for the advice. One more question. From what i'm reading to allow web access requires advanced server. Is that correct?
stanley Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Zarli: You can use IWP with your standard FMP7 install, with the web session limitations indicated by Ender in his post. Getting FMS Advanced will remove those limitations. -Stanley
