Counting number of occurrences in a field

The field type is date and it is also Indexed (I don't know if that matters) and repeating.

Repeating field -- that's the problem. Now you know why we don't use them.

I am using FMP 5.5. I have a database with a field that has many different dates entered into it. I want to have a script count the number of occurrences of certain dates within that field. For example, this field has about 30 dates in it from throughout the last year. I want a script that will search the field for dates from say December and then count the number of those occurrences. Is this possible when many values are entered into one field? This appears to be a multivalued attribute. Should I use repeating groups?

I assume that you're talking about multiple dates in one field in one record - is that right?

What kind of field holds the dates - a text field? - a repeating field?
