Server prompts for unknown password

Featured Replies

I am testing the trial version of Server 7 and I'm getting a password prompt that has me confused.

When I open a specific file with FM Dev 7 I am presented with a password dialogue that consistently shows the same user name that I used last. I enter my password and away we go. But when this file is served the dialogue uses the user name set in the registry for the current user AND an unknown password is already entered. It is not the correct password either and I have no idea where this password is coming from.

I can understand why the server might default to trying the registry user name but up until now I have not had a user in this file that matches that user name so I can't see where FileMaker server is getting this password from. Even after I entered that name into the database with my regular password it still came up with this unknown three-character password.

Anyone know why this might be happening and how I can change the behaviour?

Gee, I seem to have stumped everyone! Does that mean I am not a stranger anymore?? smile.gif

But I think I know at least part of the answer. I had set the server to authenticate with both FileMaker and an external server. That certainly explained where server was getting the login name: from my Windows account. But, since we are still running NT4 domain controllers (no active directory) I think server could not figure out what the password should be. It came up with a password with three characters from somewhere but I don't know where.

We do plan to move to Server 2003 for our domain controllers so i will give this another try then. Until then I'll have to settle for FileMaker security only.
