My server that hosts filemaker 3.03 is dying. I am moving the multi-user databases to another nt4 sp6a server. I believe I have set up the new filemaker server setup in the same method as the old server. When I use the client on the new server, I can see the databases, etc.

However, when I try it from a client pc, the server doesn't show up, only the old server is visible. Even if I add the ip address into "specify hosts", it isn't there. I must still have something not set quite right. Can you point me in the right direction?

I know it's the older-than-the-hills version, but it is for archived data that is used continually. We've moved away from filemaker for our purposes and did not upgrade.

Please help me?

Thanks!

Could be a router or firewall blocking the FM Server. Port number 5003 needs to be open for UDP and TCP/IP protocols.

More details are in TechInfo Article 104289.

No, no firewall or router between the server and the client. This is internal on one subnet.

Just removed server and attempted it again. Loaded patches 3.03 and 3.04 setup the service and started it. still no luck.

It's like it doesn't know that it is a local host. The server can see it just fine. If I do it from a client (tried both specifying the new server name and the ip), it attempts, but no databases open. Is there a setting that I am missing?

Help! I can't keep the old server alive much longer. It's now doing random reboots. Thankfully all of the databases are read only to the clients.

once you said port number...something clicked. This new server is a dual nic server...for some reason filemaker picked the second and unusued and unconnected nic connection to set up its open port for 5003. Once I connected it physically...works fine. Thanks for helping me out! Much appreciated!
