trouble with a simple network

Featured Replies

here is our setup.

the host computer is running fmp 6, with windows xp.

the guest computer is a laptop running fmp 5.5 with windows 2000.

when i try to "file|open from remote" on the guest computer, the host window opens, but there are no files showing up.

both applications are set to tcp/ip, and the files are all set to multi user.

i have read thru all the posts regarding things close to this problem, and have tried all thosae that apply. i know the network is working, cos i have pinged the host computer successfully, and i can transfer files thru the shared window capability.

i tried manually entering the ip address, and when i click "ok", it searches for that address and nothing. i tried permanently adding the address to the hosts list, and the ip address is still there. but there are no files associated with it.

help me please!

i am planning on creating a opener file, with the appropriate buttons and scripts, so that i don't have to do this every time.

any help is mucho appreciated.

thanks in advance!

alright, with no takers, i decided to switch the two computers, and now the filesa re all hosted from the laptop, and the pc is the guest. which makes more sense for now cos sometimes when we wanna work from somewhere not our home office, we can unplug and go, instead of transferring files and backing up...etc.

btw, if anyone has any idea why the first way wouldn't work, i'd appreciate any input. thanks.

Check firewall, routers are blocking FMP.

Check that the files are not set to multi-user hidden.
