Designing for unknown printers?

Featured Replies

I working on a project that will be distributed to a group of non-profits (stand alone/run time verisons--they will not have the full verison of FM). I have no way to know what printers they might have now or in the future. Any recommendations for how to avoid printing problems? How do I configure scripts that involve page setup?

Thanks,

RD

Use at least 0.5 inch margins on all sides.

I setup a set of 4 printing scripts to cover this: Print Selected Portrait, Print Current Portrait, Print Selected Landscape & Print Current Landscape. These use the any printer option.

: What is this "any printer" option? I don't find any such setting anywhere in FM7 Dev/Windows. The only options in either File/Print Setup or in any related script steps (Print Setup or Print) are the installed printer and (since I have Acrobat installed) pdf. (I do find "any printer" in FM help--but it's specifically listed only in a screen sub-titled, "Mac OS"--so I'm guessing that it's Mac-specific.

The "Any Printer" option is a Mac OS X thing. From what I have seen it is the equivilent of a "generic" printer, with only the lowest-common-denominator features. It also sets minimum margins that will work on all printer type including inkjet and laster printers.
