EllenG Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 I have this very annoying problem that pops up periodically, and inconsistently, so I've had a really tough time with it. Usually, I am able to "fix" it by making some adjustments to field size or portal size. The biggest problem is that it doesn't always happen to me in test, but one of my customers will report it. I can't describe the problem, so I am sending this pdf file that shows the problem. This seems to happen most in portals, but I've also had it happen in straight "row" printing. I found that I have to make sure my fields are aligned as "Top". In this report sample, all the fields are set as "Left, Top" alignment. What is the most frustrating is that it shows perfectly fine in the preview layout; it only shows up as a problem when the report is printed, and may not always be the same place. IE. This example shows the problem in the 3rd line, but another user may show the problem on line 7!! Anyone else find this problem; better yet, does anyone know a solution?? Thanks. HealthRecord.pdf
Vaughan Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 You may not like this, but the most reliable solution is to not print portals. Insetad, use the Go to Related Record (aka GTRR) script step to select the related records, then change over to the related file and print them through either a list layout or a summary layout. Very reliable, very flexible and very easy to do. Easier than mucking about with portals in fact. Information from the master file is often displayed on Leading Grand Summary or Trailing Grand Summary parts. The only time I've ever printed through portals is when the same layout has to print information from more than one relationship, and it has to be printed on the same page (ie, not printed as separate print jobs). I try very, very hard to avoid printing portals.
EllenG Posted October 20, 2004 Author Posted October 20, 2004 Hi Vaughn. As a rule, I avoid printing portals. However, this report needs to have summary data using 4 different relationships in the same report. I don't know any other way to do this, except with portals. Anybody know WHY this quirky print problem occurs? Especially when the report in preview mode looks perfect??
