FM Server 7 - File is not modifiable

Featured Replies

I am logged into the db on the server as admin with full access, the db is closed on the server, no one is accessing except me. I am trying to change the sequence of the accounts in Accounts & Priviedges and I get the error "This action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable."

Any idea why? Thanks!

Confused...

Are you accessing the file over the network OR are you accessing it locally?

If you are accessing it over the network, chances are the "owner" of the file is not FMSADMIN and it needs to be. That group needs to have read and write access to the file. Do a Get Info and check it out. This one gets me all the time.

If you are accessing it locally...sounds like the file may just be locked. :-)

Hope this helps!

I had this same problem. I would access the database files remotely with FMPro. But I had all kinds of permissions problems. Could not add records, edit, change fields, etc. even though permissions were set up correctly.

What I had to do was quit server, go back into my database files with FMPro, delete ALL the user accounts, and re-set them up again from scratch.

Now everything works fine. Something went hinky in the user accounts. Actually, I had this happen with a FM6 solution. Privileges went currupt. As soon as I deleted them and put them back in from scratch, it worked again.
