Newbies OSU_MBA Posted May 31, 2000 Newbies Posted May 31, 2000 Sorry for the length of post, but I'm an MS Access user and am having difficulty w/the syntax of the FMP scripting language. I have 2 FMP databases. Let's call them Original and New. The Original database has a table of approx 175 fields, including ID, Lat and Long. Some of the Lat and Long fields are blank, but the ID is always present. In the New database, I have the ID, Lat and Long fields. Data is present in all fields for all records. I'm not sure what script language to use (looping find/copy/paste; relookup; etc) to toggle back and forth to open the New database, look at the first record and examine the ID value. Toggle back to the Original database, Find the record with the same ID, toggle back to the New database, copy the Lat, toggle back to the Original database, paste in the Lat value (into the previously blank field), toggle back to the New database, copy the Long, toggle back to the Original database, paste in the Long value (into the previously blank field), toggle back to the New database, delete the current record. Repeat steps until the New database has no more records in it. Thanks for any syntax help or sample script you can provide.
Keith M. Davie Posted June 1, 2000 Posted June 1, 2000 If you have "FileMaker Pro 4 Companion", by Langer, I believe you will find the information on pp 445-457 most useful in providing examples which could be applicable to your situation. I would probably go with the If/Else construct.
Newbies jim crain Posted June 7, 2000 Newbies Posted June 7, 2000 It looks like you are updating only the blank fields in the Original file with the data from the New file.. If that is true, search for records in the Original file with blank values (are both values blank? If so, that is the easiest). Enter Find mode and type the character = into the field you are trying to find. Click on the Find button. You can make a script after you do this and have it
