Newbies Christian_G Posted November 30, 2004 Newbies Posted November 30, 2004 Hi, as you can see, I am new to this group. We are a small company and develop software for biologists. Except coding software I am responsible for almost all other areas in our company and that includes our Contact database. Over the last two weeks I improved it a lot but now I stuck a little bit. To provide a better overview between certain contacts (relationships between people) I want to link a record with other records within one table. I played around with relations (which I already use for other issues) but I stuck. Linking records in one direction is fine but how can I automatically create the link back to the original record so it works in both directions? Thanks very much, Christian
Ender Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Welcome Christian! If you're using a join table as the "link" between two Contacts in the same table, then to make a two-way relationship (for use in the same portal,) you'll need two join records, one for each direction. I have an example of this here: http://www.fmforums.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=135019 Though you won't be able to port the custom functions that set the reverse real-world relationships without FM Developer.
Newbies Christian_G Posted December 1, 2004 Author Newbies Posted December 1, 2004 Thanks a lot Ender for the quick and useful answer :-) Best, Christian
