Auto Update plugin error

I'm trying to get the auto update plugin to update my xmCHART plugin using Server 7v2 on OS X with OS X clients. I have renamed my xmCHART plugin to "xmCHART.fmplugin", and made a tar file out of that for the server's auto update folder.

The local version check correctly returns 'xmCHART 2.2.2' (or blank if it's not there,) and the remote version check correctly returns '2.2.4'. But the download returns an error -1, which the Auto Update paper says is "The file to be downloaded is missing from the temporary folder."

I don't know what this error means. If I look in the 'FileMaker 7->Extensions->Saved' folder, the xmCHART.fmplugin.tar file is there, but it didn't put an untarred file in the Extensions directory.

I'm testing this on my developer machine, so I don't think it's a permission problem on the client side (I have read/write owner access to the Extensions and Saved directories.)
