Newbies MEditor Posted December 29, 2004 Newbies Posted December 29, 2004 Files that are on a different comptuer in my network and whose references I've stored in a container field do not open when I control+click the file path and select "open file." The Details: I am using a FileMaker 7 database on Mac OS X Panther. My computer is part of a network of computers, all Macintosh computers running OS X Panther. I host a FileMaker database that is shared with our little internal workgroup. I'm not using FileMaker Server. I am setting up a database for our photo library. Our photo library is stored on a different computer from mine. I have figured out how to easily import the file reference (I certainly don't want to store the jpegs, pdfs, tiffs and eps files in my database), a thumbnail, and the file path and file name. I know that if I control+click the file path, I get a contextual menu with the option "open file" and the path. When I select that option, though, nothing happens. If the file is stored on my computer, as opposed to another computer on the network, the file appropriately opens in either Preview or Acrobat Reader. But when the file is on a different computer (which is still on the network, and, in fact, mounted on my desktop), it does not work. Is this a known problem? Did I import incorrectly (I used the Import Folder command)? Also, ultimately, I'd like to write a script that I can attach to a button so my users can just press a button and have the file open. How do I do this?
