J__ Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Hi, I was wondering what the SOP on disabling the layout drop down list on the palette/navigation view of filemaker? I have many layouts right now, which are test layouts that I plan to delete, I really don't want people to go in there. Thre is an option which says "No access" in privledge set, but then they cant even get to the first layout. I know i can disable all the layouts - but i'm wondering (hoping) there is a better approach. I look forward to your input. thanks sincerely, J__
RalphL Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Two things you can do: 1) You can select to not display the names in the layout setup. 2) You can hide the status area.
J__ Posted January 8, 2005 Author Posted January 8, 2005 Hi Ralph, thanks for the response. I do hide the status area, but it's possible they might activate it right? How can I keep them from activating the status area ? Also, option 1
J__ Posted January 8, 2005 Author Posted January 8, 2005 First, option 1, now will require me to enable them if I (the developer wants to get at them). Option 2 is interesting, but how can I keep the user from accidentally selecting to show status area? if they do then the jig is up. any other options? thanks, sincerely, J__
RalphL Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 1) The layouts are listed in the layout mode they are only hidden in the browse, find and preview modes. You have an option to lock when you hide the status area. This will require you take extra steps to get to these layouts.
J__ Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 Ok, so you are saying that if I just de-select them from showing in the menu, then they'll still show up in layout mode, but will not show up in browse and preview modes? is that right? sincerely, J__
RalphL Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Yes, that is what I said. I do that often and I also hide and lock the status area. And then I use SecureFM to get rid of the menus, etc.
J__ Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 How do you "Hide and Lock" the status area? I know how to hide it, but how do you lock it? SecureFM ? Ah, I actually have been playing with that a little. I was planning on using that to trigger my scripts from menus and controlling what menus can be executed also. thanks, sincerely, J__
Ender Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Try the Lock option on the Show/Hide Status Area script step.
J__ Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 Hi Ender, Great. Thanks so much. I didn't know you could lock the Status Area with a Script. thanks again, Sincerely, J--
