DeborahW Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Question 1: I have a variety of Avery labels (they are at work and I'm not, so I don't have the numbers). None of them appear in the FileMaker label list. Most of them are not on 8.5 X 11 sheets but are on smaller sheets (like 4X6 or so). Is there a way to set this custom size? I can put the label size in the custom area but FileMaker will assume that they are on bigger sheets. Question 2: Most of the time I don't need a full (8.5 X 11) sheet of labels printed. In fact, I might only need 5-10 at a time. This seems like a very wasteful way to operate. How do I re-use the sheets and get the labels to print where there are still labels left on the sheet? (I know there are special label printers but that is not an option here - I need a solution within FileMaker if possible). I've seen other people ask about this and seen the suggestion that they put empty records in ahead of the ones to be printed. Clunky! It would be much, much better if we could use the smaller format labels (see Question 1). The label sheets start to shed labels inside the printer if they are reused too many times. Thank you for your suggestions. Deborah
Vaughan Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 You can set label sizes manually, yes. It'll take a little bit of fiddling to get the header size correct but it's easy. Just select custom measurements. As for reusing label sheets: this question comes up a lot. I solve the problem by avoiding labels in the first place: printing directly on to envelopes for instance, or force people to print a whole sheet at a time. All methods of doing such a process will be clunky, the blank records method is about as good as any. IMHO re-feeding label sheets through a printer, especially a laser printer, is false economy.
DeborahW Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 G'day, Vaughan, Thanks. In this case the labels are for something other than mailing. Is there a way to set the *paper* size? The labels I have are on 3 1/4 X 6 1/4 sheets (Avery 5418, 5434, for instance). Deborah
