shaker Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Hello, I'm trying to find the best solution for validating links within a database without exporting records. I have come across such a solution in the past (see attached file) that worked by passing the data from a URL field to another application for validation and then setting a tag field within the database to indicate any failures. However the application that checked the links has not been developed for years and does run on OS X. Is there anyone out there that knows of a similar solution using scriptable link validation software or who can suggest an adaptation of the attached script to work with a similiar application ? Any help appreciated, shaker linkvalidationscript.txt
Martin Brändle Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 We have a similar project (about 80'000 links), therefore my interest in your question. The TCP Extra Plugin might do what you want. Here is an extract of an E-mail I sent once ago to Max Ribuoli, read it bottom up: >Yes, the header is returned with the error. you have to check text for error code. > >> >> Thanks, that's perfect. Say, if a page is not available when requested by >> "TCPe-Download HTTP Header", at least a 40x error should be returned? >> >> Martin Braendle >> >>> Subject: Re: TCP Extra Plugin questions >>> Yes, TCP Extra can be used with FMP 6. and "TCPe-Download HTTP Header" >>> returns only the headers of a URL content, not the body. There is a >>> command, "TCPe-Set Timeout", which allows you to set a timeout for >>> every request. >>>> >>>> Dear Mr. Ribuoli, >>>> >>>> I have a few questions regarding the TCP Extra FileMaker plugin: >>>> >>>> - can it be used with FileMaker 6? >>>> - I could imagine to use the "TCPe-Download HTTP Header" function to >>>> check the availability of certain URL content (say, as a link >>>> checker). Is this possible? Can a timeout be set, so that the function >>>> returns an error if the server does not respond? -- End of E-mail -- Unfortunately, I never tried this plugin out, and now we switched or are switching to FM 7, so that we have to find another solution.
