Odd portal problem / question?

Featured Replies

Hi All, apologies for lack of input on these forums, but I've just started new job and things are a bit hectic.

Anyway - I've been tasked with creating a new Asset Management Database (Users, Hardware, Software, Attached Devices etc etc) and immediately thought of FMP to develop it (as it's the only thing I use for DB creation!)

First problem is hopefully something really silly - On the hardware page I want a portal row at the bottom where 'Attached Devices' can be entered (i.e - On Mac 1 I want to specify that a Scanner is attached, a USB HD etc etc). I's also like to be able to view these attached devices on a seperate layout that shows each device, and what 'Machine Name' it's attached to.

I've managed to get the portal row field on the layout, and when you type something in it creates a new line etc etc. Only thing is, no matter what I type in, it reverts to the 'first' record created, and if I overtype it the record no longer remains related, and disappears into the ether...

Any ideas, or if someone can give me a guide I'd be forever grateful....

Thanks in advance!

All, OK - I've sorted it.

Basically I just set the match field to a field that stayed the saame anyway (i.e machine serial number) and that seems to have fixed the problem.
