hi there!

I basically have no idea how to create scripts but i think it is the only way to solve my problem!

I have a database in which the user selects a turkey from a drop down list. But along with the ID is a weight. This weight needs to be transfered into the table which the user in using.

I need a script to find the weight for that turkeyID and place it in a field in order so that i can later create reports etc.

summed up:

Script to find a value by a unique ID.

Place value in field.

Would be very grateful if anybody out there could help!

Does this file do what you want? There is a lookup field with the weight copied from the turkey table. There is no script required.

Also the data from the related table is placed directly on the layout. Note that the looked up weight and the data from the related table do not have to be the same. The lookup is only triggered when the turkey id is chosen.

Thanks again Reed, you have helped me alot, I will report back when I next log onto my FileMaker machine but it sounds like it could solve the problem!

hmm i think it doesn't work due to the orders table having a repeat of 5. Could this affect it. and also the weight lookup would be from a value list?

oh dear sorry to triple post but don't want people to waste their time.

Discovered that i have to put the fields of the turkey table underneath for it to work, thanks again to this amazing file maker resource and all the great people here! I might even consider subscribing after all this help!
