How do you make a field concatenate its text contents instead of displaying a "?" if the text is too long to fit in the field?

You've got two choices. First, you can modify the size of the text box. That's not always possible. Second, because you want to preserve your original data, you can use a display box which is a calculation field based on the original field. If you know the size of your text box (say it's around 8 characters long) then you can use a Case() statement in the calc field to concatenate. To edit the field, you'd have to switch to a layout where you can see the whole (original) field & edit.
