rikm Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 When I export a file with lots of French accents '
BobWeaver Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I'm guessing that you are transferring the file from Mac to Windows or vice versa. The text encoding of accented characters is different between the two platforms. If the destination platform is Windows, then you should open the Filemaker file in Filemaker running on Windows and export it from there. That should ensure that the encoding is correct.
rikm Posted February 7, 2005 Author Posted February 7, 2005 Thx Bob, but no... It's happening in my mac, before I send it to a pc.
BobWeaver Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 You're right. I just tried it. I notice that DBF format is the only one that does this. All the others, DIF, WK1, SYLK, TAB, etc. all export with Mac encoding. My guess is that the DBF file format specifies DOS or Windows text encoding irrespective of which platform it's on. Anyway, if you are moving this file over to a PC do these characters remain garbled when you bring them into the destination application?
BobWeaver Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Just did a check on the FMI site. Here is a link to the article: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/104138.html
rikm Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 Yes, Bob. Texts I publish this way on my website make people think I'm illiterate... Thanks for the link. It's reassuring to read that there's no way out of there. Unless changing the format all together.
rikm Posted September 25, 2005 Author Posted September 25, 2005 Now I notice: the accents I typed disappeared on this forum too...
