I currently use both the user and developer version of FM5.5. If I go to version 6 or 7 do I still need both versions to create and deploy 'compiled' versions or does the developer version include all aspects of both the user and developer programs.

The developer version contains all of the features of filemaker pro, plus the developer tools, script debugger, database design report, the plugin API (and in v7 only- custom functions and file maintenance)

So to answer your question, you only need filemaker developer.
