tmac Posted June 30, 2001 Posted June 30, 2001 I use an identical db on my Mac at home as I use on my Win98 at work. On the Mac at home, a calculated "full name" field validated for uniqueness presents a message box with a beep whenever a name first & last name is entered that matches a current record. It then presents the user with the choice of "revert field" or "OK." On the Win db, configured identical to the Mac, the message box comes without a "revert field" option, just the "OK" button. Is there a simple fix for this that I'm missing?
eremaut Posted July 3, 2001 Posted July 3, 2001 Hi, No simple fix. We find it a serious bug on FM Windows and we also found this problem on FM 5.0 and FM 5.5. Even on other ocassions this missing "revert"-button can lead (depending on field-validation) to a circular hang of FM on Windows. We have reported this to the FM development team for correction. Erwin.

Hi, i'm sorry for kicking this topic up from so deep, but i figured it wiser to search before i asked. what i want to do is create a unique feeld consisting of 2 fields. so i created 2 fields, and 1 field to be unique. the one field is a text field calculated and unique, except! it isnt! i can hit in as many identical records as i want, it wont error me... it also doesnt update when i edit one of the other fields... can you explain me, how have you created the unique calculated field ?!
Vaughan Posted December 13, 2001 Posted December 13, 2001 Take a look at the FileMaker TechInfo Database Article #104191: it discusses a technique for unique validation of a calculation field. It's neat because technically you cannot validate calculation fields! You'll find the TechInfo database on Filemaker Inc's web site. http://www.filemaker.com/
