For example: I would like to type in a location number and have an address, phone# and fax# fields fill out (as separate fields) automatically. Can this be done? And how? I'm very new to FM. Thanks.
Vaughan Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 It can be done with Lookups in FMP 6. Lookups are a way of bringing in related data. The "other number and text fields" will need to be in a separate file where each record has a unique location number. However, once you've set all that up you can try using related fields instead of lookups. Related fields will display live data from the related records, so if the Location record is updated all the other records will display the new data. For instances where this "live" updating is unwanted (say, to keep historical data) then a Lookup is better.
