spiritbear Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I am trying to install FM 7 on Windows xp pro. I purchased the software form one of the forum sponsors, Hardcoremac. I get as far as "Copying new files" when a popup asks: "Please insert the disk:1" AS I only have one disk that's in the drive it will not proceed. Any ideas?
Vaughan Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Is it an upgrade or full installer? It may be asking for the install disk of an older version of FMP. Just a guess.
spiritbear Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 It's a full installer. I got it to install on another machine running Windows 2000. I do have a trail version on this machine now. Do I need to uninstall this first??
Vaughan Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Yes, that would probably be a really good idea.
spiritbear Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 Uninstalling the trial versioin did the trick...sometimes the new will write over the old, and without any docs I didn't know and didn't want to risk losing the trail in the meantime. So I called FM and they said to uninstall firs, and voila I am now running the full versioin! However, if you are reading this, perhaps you can answer another problem. I have install FM on my other Windows 2000 machine. Everything seems to be working fine. I have copied to CD a FM db from the Windows xp machine and when I open it on the 2000 it will not let me do a thing with it even though I did assign an account to it. Keeps saying: "This action cannot be performed because this file is not modifiable." Any ideas??
Sxeptomaniac Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 It's probably still set as read-only. Browse to it, then right-click and choose properties. Uncheck the read-only option. Or are you trying to use it directly from the CD? That won't work with a CD-R, an often still won't work with a CD-RW.
