pietschker Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Fellow developers, occasionally I stumble across layout limitations, for example things that work in one layout part but not in others. Example: up to FP6, global fields placed in the header part could only be edited in Form view (since FP7 it also works in List and Table views). Other Example: In FP7 IWP I was not at all able to edit fields placed in the header part. I do not look for a solution to the latter problem, but I'm looking for a comprehensive list of "Dos" and Donts" for layouts. The FM docs I know about don't say a thing about this. I am sure the knowledge is hidden in all the posts here, but it is very hard to find via a search (I tried). Can anyone point me to a document/site or similar with a list of limitations? Or otherwise, I would be willing to set up such a list if others send me their experiences. It just takes *such* a lot of time to find out everything by trial and error... Thanks in advance!
BobWeaver Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 The best list of how things behave in different layout parts was given in the book "Special Edition Using Filemaker Pro" by Coulombre and Price. Unfortunately, it was for FM version 5. Maybe they will come out with a new edition for FM 7. It is a very good book. Other than that, I haven't seen any such list.
