AJB_UMASS Posted March 14, 2005 Author Posted March 14, 2005 OK - I have been developing a FM 7 project for two months now, using regular FM Pro 7. Last week, the boss hands me a copy of FM 7 Developer. It installed just fine, but when I connect to my FM 7 files, problems start happening. Certain scripts seem to repeatedly cause FM 7 Developer to crash, and crash hard. It displays the error message that someone else is using the same license key of FM 7 developer, and _then_, tells me that the offending machine is MY PC. How, exactly, can I conflict with myself? If anyone has experienced this problem, please tell me.

Ender Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 Your profile says your OS is OS X, but you say the conflict is with your PC. Is Developer installed on a Mac or PC? Have you upgraded the version to 7v3? I take it this is a hosted solution; what's the host version?

AJB_UMASS Posted March 14, 2005 Author Posted March 14, 2005 Son of a gun. That thread _was_ the problem. Our FM server is running on a cluster of Macs, and we were using file references in the format of: fmserver.usa.amherst.edu (fake example only) Changing the domain name to a fixed IP seems to have made FM Developer stop crashing. However - this is a bizarre bug. Hopefully, the FM guys really can fix this problem with the next updater. Thanks so much for the help!

QuinTech Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 I don't feel it's a bug -- i think files should just be coded consistently -- but between you and the original poster of the issue, i think i'm now in the minority.

Steverino Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I just got Developer, and I'm moving a multi-file solution to FM 7. However, I keep getting the License Key Conflict error, and my files keep shutting down before I have the chance to make all the references consistent. Can I use "file:name.fp7" or do I need to open "remotely"? And will I have a problem with the file references when putting the solution on a client's network where one computer hosts for 3 other users?. Is there anything I can do? Is there something that should be done before converting from 6 to 7? I know that all my tables should be in one file, but I need a stopgap solution before I spend the time performing true migration (it's a very complex solution that took years to build).
