khovjim Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 I've installed Filemaker 7 Advanced Server and recently updated to 7.0v3. Filemaker 7 Adv Server is currently residing on a Windows 2000 sp4 member server. I have set the options in Filemaker Server to use external authentication. I set the directory settings and the event log says it registered with the directory successfully. On the domain controller, i created an fmsadmin group, added my network login (i belong to admin group), have a filemaker file from our current version 6 system (filemaker server 6 is on a different server than 7), added the fmsadmin user in the file security with full access privelage set with the fmmapp extended privalege set. I installed Filemaker pro (version 7.0.v3) onto my windows 2000 pro PC. I click the Remote button, choose the filemaker server (using the local view, doesnt show in ldap although I set that up) and it prompts for password to hook to the Filemaker 7 server. I enter my network login and it does not accept it. I have to enter the Filemaker admin account to get the database list. I choose the database file and get prompted for login. Again, my network login will not work, i have to enter the filemaker security admin account. What step am I missing? Thanks in advance.
Ron F Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 sounds silly, but make sure you spelled your group name the same as your external server name. Also make sure that you actually selected the external server and not entered a logon Username in the account settings. It seems as though you set it up correctly. Make sure that you are logging on thru your domain and not from a workstation logon on. You have to authenticate via the domain controller. Also as you know FM7 will not host FM6 DB's. And, you have to pt the databases you want hosted in the Databases folder, which is located in the Program Files>Filemaker>Filermaker Server7>Data>Databases folder. Make sure you share the "Databases" folder as well. One more thing. In Filemaker Server Admin MMC make sure that in the Security area you select the radio button for Filemaker and External Server accounts. Hope that helps.
khovjim Posted March 23, 2005 Author Posted March 23, 2005 Ron, Thanks for the suggestions. I double checked everything you suggested although I'm not quite clear on what you meant by "Also make sure that you actually selected the external server and not entered a logon Username in the account settings." I am logging into the domain using a domain account from my workstation I'm doing my testing from. The FM 6 file was converted to version 7. I did not have the databased folder shared. I shared but that didn't help. What is odd that if prompts for a username/password just hooking to the FM server and that won't even accept my domain account.
khovjim Posted March 25, 2005 Author Posted March 25, 2005 I seemed to have solved this. I uninstalled the product, reboot the server, reinstall FM7 Server only (I had advanced installed as well), then applied the version 3 update, then configured the settings on the server. So far so good.
