yaqui Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I am updating from OS 9 to OS X yes I am in from the dark side. Okay here is the deal, I have a billing and accounting progam on Pro II that I love. Is there a way to convert the old template to the new FM7P? I really don't want to pay to have a new invoicing progam done. Thanks in advance. Y
BrentHedden Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Yea, it should work. Just open up the Pro2 file(s) with FileMaker 7, and it'll automatically go into the 'conversion' process. Just follow the prompts. From experience - make sure you remove any passwords out before you do this. It can become quite a headache trying to open the files, since V7 has passwords AND usernames now.
stanley Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Yaqui: Welcome to the Forums. FileMaker 7 will only convert files from FMP 3 and up. To convert a FileMaker II file (and you're going way way back into prehistory there) you'll have to open the files in a later version of FMP (3 through 6). Then you can convert the subsequent files to FMP 7. -Stanley
BobWeaver Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 You can download a demo version of FM6 from the Filemaker website which will do the conversion from 2 to 6.
stanley Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 And if the demo of FMP6 won't do the conversion (the FMP 7 demo won't do conversions, but I can't say for the FMP6 demo, as I never had call to use it) you can post up your files, and I'll do a raw conversion for you gratis. -Stanley
BobWeaver Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 The FMI website actually suggests using the FM6 demo to do conversions from versions earlier than 3.0. I think that's the only reason they still keep it there.
yaqui Posted March 29, 2005 Author Posted March 29, 2005 Thanks for your replies, I looked on the FM web site and don't see a download for 6. What is FMI? Is that a different site than the FM site? Sorry for my ignorance.
BobWeaver Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 FMI = Filemaker Inc. Yes, it's the same site See this link: http://www.filemaker.com/ti/108851.html
