Screen Flash When Using Background Graphics

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've seen this problem in both 6 & 7, and I don't know if it's a bug or a feature LOL

Anyway, suppose that, instead of specifying a background fill color for a particular layout part, you insert a graphic that isn't solid. Now if you add a field on top of this background graphic and specify a background fill pattern as transparent, everything looks good, until the screen refreshes (like when moving to the next record).

What you see is a white "screen flash", which isn't very attractive. Is there *any* way to work around this, short of removing the background graphic and specifying a background fill color?

Sean Mills

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm still having the problem, even after placing the background graphic in a container field. Here are my specs:

FMP 7.0v3

Mac OS X 10.3.7

Do you by chance have a sample file you could send me?

Thanks,

Sean

I found a solution to my problem, so I wanted to post it here.

The trick was to:

1) Create a rectangle of the same size as the background graphic and then specify a fill color (any color will do). I also removed any border.

2) Place the rectangle on top of the background graphic

3) Make sure the rectangle is still selected and then use the Arrange->Send to Back command.

I initially tried selecting the entire layout part (the body in this case), and then specifying a fill color, but that didn't work. Also, I didn't need to place the background graphic in a global container field, although you certainly could (especially if you wanted to change it later).

Hope this helps someone,

Sean
