Newbies Laurie Posted April 4, 2005 Newbies Posted April 4, 2005 Total FileMaker newbie here. I recently upgraded one of our users from Windows 2000 running FMP 5 to Windows XP running FMP 7. He has a database with a fair amount of scripting in it. All the work on the database was done by someone who worked here a few years before I started, so I know less than a little bit about what's happening behind the interface. One of the functions he used to be able to use without a problem was to e-mail a contact. Since the upgrade, the button that controls the e-mail function now opens a "Windows Messaging Wizard" that eventually fails with a DLL error and suggests opening the Mail applet under Control Panel. It sounds like FM isn't sure what to use as the default application for Mail. The user has the latest version of Eudora installed and configured for e-mail. Eudora is even listed by IE as the default application for e-mail. Help suggested checking the win.ini file for a [Mail] section. Much to my surprise, one still exists in the Windows directory and it has a [Mail] section but not much in it. Just this, [Mail] MAPI=1 MAPIX=1 On my system this same file has this in [Mail]. I use Outlook and the email function works fine for me. I tried copying and pasting the extra lines from my ini file into the users - didn't help. [Mail] MAPI=1 CMC=1 CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll MAPIX=1 MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1 OLEMessaging=1 Any ideas about what is required to make the e-mail function work again under the new setup? Thanks in advance. Laurie
Newbies Laurie Posted April 4, 2005 Author Newbies Posted April 4, 2005 A bit of an update. The Windows Messaging Wizard is what is coming up on our Windows 2000 test machine with FMP 7. Today I noticed that the XP machine was popping up a MS Outlook error complaining that there was no profile setup. There was no Outlook profile because the user has and prefers Eudora. Anyway, I removed Outlook from the Office install and now running the Send Mail script starts to open Eudora - yippee, but then FM crashes and XP gives me the option to Send a report to Microsoft - booooooo. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Now I'll start surfing the forum for crash messages. Thanks again for any advice. Laurie
Newbies Laurie Posted April 14, 2005 Author Newbies Posted April 14, 2005 Hi all, Thought I'd follow up with what happened with this issue. I checked on the user's system (Win XP, SP2 and Eudora 6.2) and he did NOT have a win.ini file in his system32 directory. I created one with the same [Mail] section as on my computer but replaced the CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll from mine with the lines: CMCDLLNAME=Eumapi.dll CMCDLLNAME32=Eumapi32.dll Magic! All fixed. Laurie ???
