Installing FM7 Server on Windows 2k Server

Dear Colleagues,

I'm installing FM7Server on Windows 2k Server. I have a database on FM5.5 Pro. The question is: How can I use this Database for connect by Internet Explorer?.

I need to design an special interface in ASP or PHP?

Easiest way is to convert it to FMP 7 version, yes you have to buy a client version. Next get hold of filemaker Server advance so that it includes IWP instant web publishing.

If you prefer a little coding that FX.php will be the best way to go. However learning curve is a bit hard. If you want ASP u should stick with the Access or SQL database as Fmp7 integration with Asp is difficult. Not sure even it is possible.

Sure, writing ASP to access FileMaker databases is very possible. I've done it (to a small degree) before. It's the same SQL commands as any other language. You've got to make sure the FM ODBC drivers are installed and set up correctly first. I really wouldn't recommend ASP though, as there seems to be no "help" and very few people seems to be doing it. FX.php was specifically written for FileMaker, and seems like the more popular choice.

With what you want to do, FileMaker Server won't do you much good. You've got to use Server Advanced to take advantage of all the web capabilities. You could use just the Pro version to web host your solution, but it's very limiting, and only suggested as a testing grounds, not for production.

You can use FM Pro or developer to convert your solution. This works pretty well for smaller solutions, but be ready to perform some additional programming to get it up to 7's ability if it's a complex program.
