Newbies Tim Vaughan Posted April 15, 2005 Newbies Posted April 15, 2005 I wonder If anyone can help. I just received my copy of Filemaker 7 and have started off quite well. I already have my page set up with my database attached. What I want to do now is to import a folders worth of images associated with that database. Unfortuantely when I try to import the images within the first layout it places it in another layout (where it works)but can't seem to put them on the same page with both the text field and the container field working simultaneously. Can anyone help??
Fenton Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 All Layouts of the same table (table occurrence) will show the same records, at least within the same window; that is, if you haven't created a new separate window, which may have a different found count (like 0, in which case nothing shows). So, you should first check that the 2 fields, container and text, are defined within the same table. They do not have to be. They could be from separate tables, 2 different table occurrences. But then you'd need a relationship between them, with a "key" field. You say "I have my page set up with my database attached." The word "page" is not a FileMaker term (other than its common meaning as a printable page), so we don't know what you mean. Likewise "attached" is nebulous, unless you mean a related database file. You could upload a small example, or a clone: File menu, Save a Copy, Clone (no records). Then zip it. We could then look at the structure. Something is odd.
Newbies Tim Vaughan Posted April 18, 2005 Author Newbies Posted April 18, 2005 Thanks for the help Fenton, not really up to scratch with the lingo yet i'm afraid. Where do I upload my zip file to?
Fenton Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Here. When you post, there is a little button at the bottom left, just above the "Ok, submit", to "Choose File". Do that first, then submit.
Newbies Tim Vaughan Posted April 20, 2005 Author Newbies Posted April 20, 2005 Thanks again. As you can see from the file, all the information was imported from one excel spreadsheet. The area in the box is where I want the appropriate Logo to go. Is there any way they can be placed in the same table? EltaPublications.fp7.zip
Fenton Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Well, it could be just a field in the same table. But would more than 1 publication share the same Logo? If that is common, branches of the same company, then the separate Logo table would be useful. I did it both ways. The relational method requires that you have a real ID to tie the two together. It would be automatically created if you inserted the Logo while on the Publication record; the relationship has "allow creation of related records" on. Or you could choose the ID from a value list in Logos. We can't see the Logos, as they were Inserted as "reference only." Which also means that they will not show up on a network solution unless they are either: 1. Inserted from a mounted shared volume on a 3rd machine, or 2. Inserted not as a reference, but embedded into the FileMaker file. Since Logos tend to be small you might want to just embed them. It makes the file larger, but makes life a little less complicated. They should be near to the correct size. Don't embed huge graphics, then "reduce" them to look like logos. With graphics what you see is not always what you got. EltaPublications.zip
Newbies Tim Vaughan Posted April 25, 2005 Author Newbies Posted April 25, 2005 Thanks for all your help again Fenton. Got a few more problems now, any ychance of more help? I've managed to bring the logos into Filemaker and can view them within the application. I have also added them as requested and have not imported them as reference only but when I come to 'instant web publishing' I'm afraid I still can't see the images. Also, as I view the file on the web I can't scroll with-in certain fields (Featured Articles) and when I get to the supposed last record it carries on and repeats the records in a random order. Any ideas again?? Thanks again. EltaPublications.fp7.zip
