Daytona Beach, FL - May 2, 2005 FMWebschool announces CodeSentry to the

FileMaker community.

Software piracy is at an all time high. The software industry estimates its

losses in the 29 billion dollar range with pirated software on every third

computer. FileMaker Inc. submitted a press release to the FileMaker

community warning everyone of grey market software and piracy. Those of us

that create custom FileMaker solutions for a living may have felt the sting,

not only have I seen my books passed around the internet, but one even

translated into another language and resold without my permission.

FMPlugin was contacted by Mr. Lewis of Solutions In Motion. Solutions In

Motion develops excellent FileMaker solutions for the Real Estate and

Automobile industry. Mr. Lewis sells an Automobile CRM program that is

subscription based. Clients would download the software, and every month

they were contractually obligated to pay him a monthly fee to continue using

the software. Not only did many of the clients not pay him, they also made

copies of the software and passed it around the office.

We worked with Mr. Lewis and developed a FileMaker plug-in called

CodeSentry. CodeSentry enabled Mr. Lewis to not only set up demo files, but

to create a subscription based program...where, if individuals did not pay,

their solution would not launch. We did this by creating a license

generator that created a license file on the users computer, and grabbed

internal bios from the computer. If the individual did not have the current

license file, and the code did not match the internal bios of that computer,

then the software would log onto the web server to see if the needed file

existed. If the file did not exist, the solution would close and could not

be opened again until payment was made.

Voila. Mr. Lewis began to receive phone calls that individuals solutions

were no longer running. Could this be that they had not made their monthly

payment?! Suddenly Solutions In Motion was in the green again, and

customers were paying to use his solution.
