Calculation (concatenation)

I cannot seem to insert text into a concatenation field. Whenever I try to use quotation marks to contain the text I want inserted, I get the error message that a field name is expected in place of the quotation.

What am I doing wrong?

Can you show us the calculation please?

Single quotes should be OK. Are you typing in curly quotes? I think FMP needs "straight" quotes: use the "" button to insert them rather than typing them in by hand.

You are completely correct. I think I misread the earlier question, thinking this was a situation where quotes needed to be escaped.

Thanks for catching that error.

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses. It turned out to be pilot error. I have a program (control panel) called Smart Keys that does some nice things like puttimg em dashes into text.

Unfortunately, is also did something to quotes, like doubling them. When I shut that off, all was well.
