Entry restricted on Import

Featured Replies

When trying to import records into a file with Shared access on another PC, the import works when using the master password but does not with another password (this particular password has all permissions in this file except Print Records and the Design/Security options and no fields/layouts have been restricted and has no restriction to fields in the file containing the records to be imported) and when attempting to import using an import script I get the following message "Your password does not enable you to do this, or your file is not modifiable".

I am presuming that my script may be at fault but the import was set up based on the matching fields option.

Can anyone advise?

The problem is probably the shared access... is it on a network file server?

The file may be locked or you only have OS-level read-only access.

BTW, this is the *worst* way to share FMP databases. It slowly corrupts the database. Instead, set up a FMP host computer with FMP (or better yet FM Server).

Thanks Vaughan

After much checking this issue was caused by the user not having Export permissions in the file that the data was coming from.

So in future I'll use the maxim that "IMPORT MEANS EXPORT"!!

I also much appreciate your comments about the shared access setup.

Thanks once again.

Carl
