Set OPEN to default action instead of EDIT

Featured Replies

I am trying to allow users to save word perfect documents in their filemaker records. I want it to be simple enough so that they can drag the document into the container, and then be able to double click the document to open it in word perfect. The default action is set to edit, which causes this ugly, confusing edit window to pop up in filemaker.

Is there a way to change the default action to OPEN the file instead of edit it when users double click on the container field?

I think the Edit default action is connected with Windows Explorer. Try right-clicking a Wordperfect document in an Explorer window and see which action is in bold text, if it is Edit then you will need to change this in Windows.

To change it the safest way to do it is via the Tools-Folder Options > File Types tab in Windows Explorer. Select the extension of the file type and then press the Advanced button and change the default action to what you want.

This only applies to the machine on which you are making the changes - I don't think it is possible to make a chnage within filemaker which will chnage the default file action on other machines. It is is possible I would like to know how to do it.
