can a script do a WhoIs and import the results?

Featured Replies

I'd like to be able to enter a domain name into a field and then have a script do a WhoIs and import those data into the record.

Possible?

Anyone have a script for it to share?

If you have a whois command line tool, you can do one of two things:

Use the Send Message [] script step to execute the tool, redirecting it's output to a text file, then import that text file into a field or related record.

Use the shell plugin from abstrakt.com to read the standard output to a field.

What is a WhoIs command line tool?

There is a web site where I can enter a domain name and get back a WhoIs. (see http://sunny.nic.com/cgi-bin/whois)

Is that a command line tool?

I guess I need to repeat my question asking for a script. While I am sure that the response is accurate, it is not a script and I don't know how to assemble one from that description. More detailed information would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
