replacing German characters

I have a file with 1500 German names, in two fields firstname and lastname. They contain German charcters

You can nest the Substitute() function to do what you want, like so:

Substitute(Substitute(Substitute(firstname; "

yep, that did the trick nicely - am pleased I was at least on the right track, just not sure how to nest the substitute function.
