Newbies Jerry UCI Posted June 17, 2005 Newbies Posted June 17, 2005 I will be putting pdf forms on the web. When a user fills out a form, I want the data that has been entered into each field of the pdf to go into a Filemaker table that has corresponding fields. Note that I do not want to put a copy of the pdf into a FMP container -- instead, I want the data that has been entered into each field of the pdf (for example a field that holds the user's last name) and store that information (in the current example, the user's last name) into a FMP table field for the last name, and so on for each field of the pdf document. I have no idea how to do this, so I am hoping someone can get me started in the right direction. This is my first post, and I am not sure if this should be posted in this Import/Export forum or the PDF forum, but I started here. Thanks in advance! Jerry
SlimJim Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 This is one of the functions of the Adobe Acrobat Pro software I think - integrating with an ODBC compliant database? I have been reading about this on the Adobe website but I cannot as yet justify the expense of buying Acrobat Pro!! Try the following http://www.adobe.com/education/acrobat/tips/understand_pdfs.html for some general information.
QuinTech Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Hi Jerry. I think Import/Export is the right forum for this. Check out Dean Westover's PDF to FMP transformation in the FileMaker XSLT library. Also, AlQemy software offers a product that can generate PDFs from Filemaker data; I'm not sure, but I think they can also pull PDF data into Filemaker. Jerry
Newbies Jerry UCI Posted June 21, 2005 Author Newbies Posted June 21, 2005 Thanks for the suggestions. I have not yet looked at Dean Westover's info, but I have looked at the AlQemy site and it seems like they have a "menu" of products that might do the trick, or at least help. I will look into it further, and also keep looking elsewhere (including this forum!). Jerry
