barcode scanner script

Featured Replies

I was wondering if there was a way to make a barcode that would trigger a script?

Use the EventScript plug-in from S4HU. Set the reader to send a tab character at the end of the scan. This will exit the field and the plug-in will trigger the script.

Himitsu:

You can also create barcodes that only trigger scripts, by making barcodes of ctrl-1, ctrl-2, etc. (or rather the ASCII equivalent), when you've got scripts that appear in the top ten slots under the ScriptMaker menu.

Stanley,

I can understand that but I am using the font free39 and I can't seem to be able to make a ctrl type barcode ... maybe it is the font or is it the scanner has a combination of keys that equal a "ctrl" comman?

Himitsu:

It depends on the the type of barcode reader you're using, as well as the font. I don't know anything about free39 - I use 3of9 - and I can't recall off the top of my head what the format is for sending a control character. I'll look it up on Monday and let you know.

Himitsu:

Running FMP 5.5 on Macintosh OS9 or Windows 98 using the HHP 3800 barcode scanner, the format for a control character is as follows (for cmd-1, which is analogous to ctrl-1):

*$H1$J*

Let me know if that works for you.

Stanley,

thanks for the time on this. I don't have a printer in my house so I can't print it. I tried with the monitor but I guess that doesn't work. I will try it when I get in my office on Monday.
