date modified for a small portion

This has been discussed here before. Basically define a STORED calculation field euqal to an IF calculation. If the field to watch is "Name" it would be

If(Name, x,x)

where x is whatever report you want such as the name of the modifier.

This seems to change whenever any thing in the record is modified not just the watched fields I have several fields that i need to "watch " for modification and i only want to change the field when one of them is modified.

do you know when this was discussed earlier? or where i can find the records? because i cannot seem to find them by searching.

I am trying to created a field that records the "date modified" and the "modified by" fields in a record. Heres the trick, the field must only update when one of a few select fields are modified, NOT when ANY field on the record is modified. If anyone has any ideas on how i might accomplish this i would really appriciate it.
