Newbies karencp Posted July 21, 2005 Newbies Posted July 21, 2005 I created 3 interrelated DBs using Windows XP (FP 6)for a friend who has a Mac...I've copied the files on CD Rom so she can put them on her computer and use them to update, etc. No matter what we tried, the files remained "locked" when we put them on her Mac... have done the password thing, given full permissions, have clicked off the Read only, have tried to network (she was able to read and use files while networked, but not when she copied them over to her computer). We're sure there's something very simple but we sure can't figure it out. Any ideas? We're going nuts here in the woods trying. And neither of us are particular techies...just trying to get some stuff organized! Thanks,
Ender Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Make sure the file is unlocked. This is set in the Finder under File->Get Info.
Newbies karencp Posted July 21, 2005 Author Newbies Posted July 21, 2005 Thx for quick reply, my friend can't make the change on her Mac because I guess I have it locked from my end...what about from my Windows XP PC...I don't have or can't find that option, do you know what/where it might be for Windows (sorry to be such a dimbulb but this is driving me crazy)... thanks. Kcp
Ender Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 If it's an OS locking thing, then you or your friend should unlock it on the Mac. The issue is that sometimes files copied from a read-only folder or volume (like a CD) are "locked" by the Mac OS. So nothing you do in your Windows machine will fix that.
rogermax Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 When you burn the files to CD they are automatically made read only on windows. You could zip or stuff them prior to burning. Once unstuffed to the target computer they "should" be useable. (I have not used a Mac in years, but this works on windows.)
