This has been addressed in other places on this forum but I haven't been able to follow the solutions provided so I'm asking again:

I have a table with an index key (sorry - i'm an access user) that is an autonumber called Physician ID, then a field called FirstName and another called LastName. What I want to be able to do is to have a popup on my layout that shows Physician ID #, lastname, firstname and when I choose one of those physicians listed I would like the other 2 fields populated (LastName, Firstname). If the physician I want isn't listed, I want to be able to input the required names into the 2nd and 3rd fields and have the first field automatically updated. this is so easy in Access but having spent 6 hours trying to figure this out in filemaker i'm about to throw up my hands! Please help.

I've put together a very simple example. Perhaps that will explain. In the dropdown list if you do not want to choose one of the existing simple then just hit enter and start filling in the details.
