Opening DBs really slow

We've just migrated a bunch of FM5 files to FM7 Server. Having jumped through a bunch of hoops already RE: networking, enabling remote viewing of files, re-installing due to weird 'bad login' message and etc., the one final thing that seems to be plaguing us is that when we restart the server or add databases and open them, this takes SOOOOOOO long. We just restarted and tried to open a new 196KB database and it took at least 15 minutes. I am not exaggerating--it may actually have been longer. Opening the entire set of databases (something like 20ish) seems to proceed in fits and starts, some files taking a ridiculously long time, others opening fairly quickly, but I must confess I don't understand why this would take any time whatsoever.

I admit my ignorance too--I'm a FileMaker n00b, I'm mostly coming from the MySQL/Oracle world, so quite honestly the whole function of FileMaker makes no sense whatsoever to me...but I won't get into that. ;)

Anyways, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Welcome to the forums!

The reinstallation may be a culprit. A totally complete uninstall may be necessary. Was the server restarted after the uninstall but before the re-install?

What platform is the server on?

Hi,

try to check the file relations (if any) to see if any crooked ones are in the list.

Then if you have file-sharing acces to the files, remove that acces, since filemaker has its own protocol, direct acces will slow everything down.
