I was recently told there was a built-in feature in FM 6 Server that could automate backups -- I don't have a copy in front of me; so I wonder if anyone could enlighten me to this feature?

Does it exist?

Does it exist on the Windows side?

Can you target another drive on a network, etc.?

Merkaba22:

FMS has a scheduled backups feature, which allows you to select a target and back up to it. Backing up over the network will depend on your network settings; there is definitely a caveat to that, which is that you should beware of having loose copies of your files, as someone might open one by mistake...

Hey thanks Stanley!

Onthe PC version, which I don't have immediate access to, where are these preferences set?

FM Server 5.5 ... there is no FMS 6.

In Windows, open the Server Console program. In the left-hand panel, double-click on the FileMaker Server icon then the Schedules icon.
