Donnie
I see alot of posts about speed, and I'd like to add one to the mix. We are running FM Server 5.5, and FMPro 6. We just changed our Internet providers which prompted us to change our DNS on all of our machines. Nevertheless, the problem happens on local machines in our office. We try to open a file that also opens 6 or so related files. The files open, but when it comes to displaying the layouts on the screen, it hangs. Sometimes in upwards of 1 minute. This all just started happening around the time of the change, and I was wondering if it would be a related problem. Am I not looking in the right spot for the fix for this? We are having some people come in Friday to hook an analyzer to our FM server to see if there is any network chatter that I'm not seeing. I just don't want to pay them if it's a FM thing. Thanks! gdurniak
Try "pinging" each machine, and look for any dropped packets
Donnie
Ok, I did that, and it pinged fine each time.
Donnie
Ok, figured it out. A couple of users' machines had a drive mapped to the "old" ISP's address. They rarely use that drive, so it went unnoticed for a while. When opening My Computer, it was also slow, and then I noticed that IP address. I changed that to the correct address, and presto......My Computer opened quickly like it should. I tested the FM files that were giving us fits, and they opened fine, no delay whatsoever. So I went and checked the other machine, and it was the same issue. Now all is well within our universe for the time being. One less issue to worry about before leaving for DevCon. Thanks again! gdurniak
I'm just curious ... Why did your users' machines have a drive mapped to to your ISP's DSN Servers?
